Anaesthesiologist
Dr Fourtounas graduated from the University of Pretoria in 2008. She obtained a Diploma in HIV Management and a Diploma in Anaesthesia during her community service year. In 2016 she qualified as a specialist with the Fellowship of the College of Anaesthesiologists and a Master of Medicine in Anaesthesia from the University of the Witwatersrand. She was a consultant at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital for over 6 years, of which 2 years were as a senior specialist. She has a keen interest in research and was the Deputy Hub Lead of the Johannesburg Hub at the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Unit on Global Surgery from June 2020. She is an instructor for Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Definitive Surgical and Anaesthetic Trauma Care (DSATC) courses and has been invited to instruct at the DSATC in Greece and the Netherlands. She is currently undertaking a Master of Science in Clinical Trials through the University of Edinburgh.
